The organization was established on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth celebrations on 2nd Oct 2005. His eventful life was packed with outstanding achievements in diverse fields. He was a towering figure on the Indian political scene and a scholar par excellence.
His greatest vision was “GRAM SWARAJ” which emphasizes the prominent role of Indian village economy in the country’s financial growth through self-governance and sustenance. As a result individuals in the community, regardless of their social status would be empowered in gaining control over all factors that affect their lives.
Inspired by such a vision, Dr J K Srivastava shared his burden with few young followers of Gandhi who promised to dedicate their lives to promote GRAM SWARAJ in India. Their concerted efforts gave birth to SAFE society with a vision to promote an ideal society where even the marginalized people from rural areas enjoy the social and financial freedom.
SAFE society is currently functioning in Uttar Pradesh based out of Gorakhpur city with an objective to enhance the socio-economic standard of the deprived communities in the rural areas of the state. Our present social development portfolio includes sustainable livelihood of the poor communities, women welfare, promoting child rights and public health especially reducing the incidence of HIV and TB.
In our pursuit to achieve the above goals we have established about 100 Self Help Groups with more than 1000 members across the state which are connected with Purvanchal Bank. To eradicate Tuberculosis from the state, 150 of our trained Rural Health Care Providers are actively working in the remote locations. To rescue runaway and street children our children project is functioning in the city and through this project till date we have reunited about 60 children with their families. ‘Safe Blood Bank’ is our new initiative to help people who are in need of blood by connecting them with the donors.
With all our endeavors we are moving closer to our vision to see our country as a safe society where women are respected, the children are protected and the poor will have access to sustainable livelihood.
